Slow Cooker Pulled Pork Recipe

Slow Cooker Pulled Pork RecipeThis meal is actually from a few weeks ago as I have definitely fallen behind in my blogging. I recently decided to try and stimulate the half of my brain that is slowly decaying and take a medieval Literature course – very misguided. I am really enjoying it but it eats up a lot of my spare time. I have to really make sure I make time next weekend otherwise I am going to miss my Daring Bakers Challenge! In the spirit of stimulation I have been doing a lot of reading in the last few weeks – I re-read Jane Eyre, which I had read as a kid and hated, and just fell in love with it. Does anyone else have any books like that? That you hated as a kid and loved as an Adult?

As for the recipe, when I first got my copy of the Gourmet Slow Cooker one of the most appealing recipes was the recipe for Pulled Pork. I love pulled pork, especially good and spicy so making it in the slow cooker or crockpot was instantly appealing. I made it several times, each time changing it up a little more until I was at this version, which is really quite different than the original. I found the original a little too sweet and missing any spicy kick. As easy recipes go this is great, it really only takes 5 minutes the night before to mix the sauce up and 2 minutes in the morning to throw it together. I have left this for 10 hours and I am sure if your slow cooker will let you, the pork would tolerate more.

This isn’t the traditional pulled pork of Louisiana BBQ, but you are making it in a crockpot so no one will expect that anyway. What it is, is a really yummy, spicy, loose meat sandwich with pork so tender it will fall apart in your mouth. I served it on a soft bun with sliced apples and green onions but it is ultimately up to you.

Also, this is the recipe that led to the Pulled Pork Quesadillas of a few months ago. You will want to know this, since, trust me, you will have leftovers. However, even if you don’t get through all the leftovers at about $6 per batch it is a very affordable meal and makes for great work sandwiches for the next few days.

This sounds great! I have being trying to get a pulled pork with beans recipe to work. I may try this sauce with the pork, but add beans along with it as well. This sounds fun to play with! Thanks!

Sounds really good. Especially for having people over for the basketball finals right now!

Oh ya, that reminds me of my idea to make a crock pot pulled pork thing…. thanks :)

I love the ingredients – and the idea of slow-cooked pork.
No crockpot, though. The French are much more into pressure cookers….

This looks fabulous! What kind of pork roast did you use? My husband would really love this.

Jane Eyre is one of my all time favorites… I did hate Little Women the first time I tried to read it though, but then ended up loving it a few years later.

Just discovered your site while looking around for others that have done pulled pork. I just smoked some in my weber and finished them in the oven and had a great time. They came out smoky tender. Love the site!

If you have a minute would love for you to come take a look and give me your opinion. http://cookingquest.wordpress.com

Really appreciate it… I will be back!

I loved this recipe! Most pulled pork recipes I have eaten are so sweet. Being a diabetic, this is a big deal. The apple cider gave it nice depth and the spices were just right-not too hot for all my friends but hot enough for my husband. Just a tip: if you don’t have chili paste or tamarind paste on hand, make sure you buy it from an asian grocery. It is so much cheaper.
