Roasted Okra Recipe

Roasted Okra RecipeThis was my first time cooking okra, and it turned out great! I have had it in stews and soups at restaurants before, but I wanted to do something simple with it so I could really taste the flavour and texture. As I understand it, if you cook okra wrong, it has a slimy texture, but not to worry, this recipe doesn’t. Okra are actually the seed pods of a plant similar to cotton. Similar to peas or beans, when you are growing okra you want to pick the pods daily to continue getting more.

This is a simple method on how to roast okra and it makes a delicious side dish. We both ate it with our fingers, dipping it in sriracha. Next time, I intend to use it in a soup or stew, maybe even a gumbo! Give it a try, as it is very easy, and currently in season. Does anyone else have any good okra recipes?

  1. I will have to try this method! We usually just blanch it for a couple of minutes in boiling water and eat them dipped in Kikkoman soy sauce! And have it with rice and other side dishes :)

  2. That also sounds easy and good. I assume you blanch them whole?
