Breyers Double Churn Ice Cream

I was recently sent some coupons for some free Breyers Double Churn ice cream as they have a few new flavours out. Although I am not a major ice cream person I agreed, mostly because I have heard awful things about the new Double Churn ice cream. Several people I know have written to Breyers to complain because they really don’t like it.

Well, maybe because I was expecting bad ice cream, but I was pleasantly surprised. We tried the dark chocolate velvet flavour and we both really liked it. Our main criticism was that it was quite soft even straight from the freezer. That said, it only has ~150 calories for a half cup which is half that of the Häagen-Dazs chocolate ice cream. I would probably buy it again, although at $8.29 a carton it certainly isn’t cheap. However, it was absolutely delicious scooped on top of a hot cupcake.

I also tried the Chocolate Cheesecake flavour which was fine but not good enough to have me going back for much more. The chocolate went quickly. I suspect the cheesecake will sit in our freezer for awhile.
