Greek Roasted Lemon Potatoes Recipe

by katerina on June 8, 2011

Greek lemon potatoes are crispy and brown on the outside, tender and pillowy on the inside with a strong but simple lemon flavour. After consulting Peter, I attempted making traditional Green roasted potatoes at home. So easy. So good.

Don’t be deceived into thinking these have any redeeming virtues from a health perspective; the potatoes basically deep fry in the oven. But they are worth it. Plus the beautiful fragrance will waft through your home and welcome any lucky guests.

Greek Roasted Lemon Potatoes

(serves 4)
Adapted from Food.com

4 potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 cup olive oil
1/2 cup water
the juice of one lemon
1/2 teaspoon salt
freshly ground pepper
1/2 teaspoon dried Oregano

Turn your oven on to 475F. Spray a small casserole dish with cooking spray, or baste gently with olive oil. Combine all ingredients in the casserole and toss well. Stir so that the garlic is submerged in the liquid so it doesn't burn.

Place in the oven and bake for 20 minutes. Remove from the oven and baste the potatoes, return to the oven for another 20 minutes or until potatoes are cooked through. (This really depends on how big you cut them, I was hungry so I went fairly small.) Serve hot!

Awesome! We used to get amazing potatoes just like this at a greek restaurant and I haven’t been able to make them so I’m giving yours a try for sure! Actually I might make them tonight because I’m making some other greek dishes for dinner and I have all the ingredients. Perfect timing :D Thank you!

Oh yum, these look fantastic! I didn’t realize this was how Greek style roasted potatoes were cooked. I love love that combo of lemon and creamy roasted tomatoes.

Got ready to season pork chops and got out potatoes to bake. Wanted to dress them up so came online and here you are. Had to try them. I am a huge fan of anything lemon, I just this past year tried Lemoncello for the first time…yummmm.

They are in the oven as I type this. Getting ready to smell up the house, can’t wait.
Thank you.

Would this work with small, unpeeled potatoes? I am totally lazy, though I always use the “extra fiber” excuse. But the store near me usually has small golden potatoes with rather thin skins that are fantastic.

@Janet, I certainly don’t think they would be inedible. That said, I have never made Greek roasted potatoes with the skins on before, they will either be fabulous or soggy. It does look like other people have done it though. (http://www.thedailymeal.com/greek-style-roasted-chicken-and-potatoes) Let me know if you try it!

I asked the infamous question to my mother, “What’s for dinner?” After arguing about not wanting hotdogs (ew!) and mashed potatoes, I looked up potato recipes, and found this and am grilling up some ribs. Smells SOO yummy! Thank you.
