These easy little holiday appetizers are very popular under the title Bisquick Sausage Balls. I was on twitter last week when Katie Lee Joel twittered about them being a favorite of hers and I thought they would be a great quick fix. I find it so easy to make sweets at the holidays, but am sometimes stumped for savory ideas, especially speedy ones.
I couldn’t actually find Bisquick in the store, maybe it is an American thing? I bought biscuit mix and used that which seemed to work fine. They certainly do come together very fast. Overall these went over okay, but I am not sure I would make them again. They were fine but a bit greasy. If you have a sausage lover in your house I am sure this will please. However, if you don’t tolerate spice well try using sweet sausage rather then hot.
Sausage and Cheddar Bites
(30 bites)Preheat oven to 350F. Remove casing from sausages and add meat to a bowl. Combine with mix and cheese and use your hands to combine thoroughly. Roll into balls just smaller then a golf ball and place on a baking sheet. Brush with the cream, this will help them to brown. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until sausage is cooked through. Serve hot. (You can refrigerate them cooked and then reheat later.)

Great blog and Merry Christmas !!!
Bisquick is DEFINITELY an American thing. And one that I sometimes wish to forget.
This sounds delicious though! Sausage and cheese is delicious together.
B & D – let me know how they turn out!!
Joanne – ha! I stood in the baking aisle for like 10 minutes trying to spot it!
I'll have to try these – I tried something similar before, but they were really dry. Must have been a bad recipe!
I made this for Easter last weekend, HUGE hit! And soooo easy!
I make the same thing using spicy Italian sausage and a couple shots of Jim Beam or Southern Comfort. When you add the alcohol let it sit for at least an hour and then roll like normal. Soooooo good.
Jim Beam eh? Neato
